Skills

A skill is a reusable, plain-language instruction that tells GraFx Genie how to carry out a kind of task in your environment. Where a Brand Kit tells GraFx Genie what your brand looks like, a skill tells it how your organization works: which layouts a campaign needs, where approved imagery lives, how variables are named, what must never be editable.

Skills are defined per environment, in Environment settings › Skills, and read by GraFx Genie at the start of every session. Each skill has a name, a description that says when it applies, and Markdown instructions that say what to do. GraFx Genie reads the names and descriptions on every prompt, loads the skills that match the request, and follows their instructions. An environment can hold up to 10 skills.

Today, skills are used by the GraFx Genie Design Agent in GraFx Studio.

Why skills

Without skills, every conversation with GraFx Genie starts from zero: you explain your campaign formats, your DAM folders and your naming conventions each time, and results differ between designers. A skill captures that knowledge once, at environment level, so the agent applies it to every request that matches, for everyone who works in the environment.

Typical skills:

  • The set of layouts a campaign template must have, and how each is arranged.
  • How image variables are linked to a DAM, and which folders hold approved assets.
  • Variable naming, grouping and defaults.
  • How a custom connector is organized.
  • Organization-specific vocabulary, such as in-store zones.
  • Hard rules: legal copy on print layouts, logo clear space, elements that are never variable.

A skill is for rules and procedures that recur. A one-off instruction belongs in the chat; a fact about one Brand Kit element belongs in that element's description.

How skills are created

Skills can be written by hand or generated by GraFx Genie from a short brief ("every seasonal campaign needs A4, A3, 1080×1080 and a Full HD animated layout; landscape layouts put the image on the left"). Generated skills are grounded in what the agent can actually do and in the GraFx documentation. Skills can be exported and imported as JSON, so they can be built in a Sandbox environment and moved to production.
